Ex-Red Wing Pius Suter has found a new home

While there are several brand new players on the Detroit Red Wings for the upcoming 2023-24 season, one player who was made expendable by the additions from GM Steve Yzerman was forward Pius Suter, who had spent the last two years with Detroit after being lured from the Chicago Blackhawks in 2021. 

And now, he's found a new home. According to multiple reports, Suter has signed a two-year contract in the Pacific Northwest and joined the Vancouver Canucks. His deal carries an AAV of $1.6 million, a slight reduction of his cap hit of $3,250,000 the last two years. 

Suter had an effective first year with Detroit, scoring 15 goals with 21 assists in 2021-22. His production would dip a bit to 24 points last season. In 216 total career games with the Blackhawks and Red Wings, he's scored 43 goals with 44 assists; he's yet to appear in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. 

He becomes the latest former Red Wings player to join the Canucks, following in the footsteps of defenseman Filip Hronek, who was flipped to Vancouver at last season's NHL Trade Deadline.
