Exceptionally classy move by Steven Stamkos in Tampa despite contract stalemate

It hasn’t been an easier season for Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos, but the guy remains a class act in his community. Earlier this week, the Bolts’ players were invited to go shopping with young unprivileged kids for the Metropolitan Ministries ahead of the Christmas season, and Stamkos was paired with a young teenager who was left in awe by his favourite player.
Stamkos wanted to make sure the young fan had a good time and agreed to get him all the presents he wanted, but also allowed him to select some gifts for his younger brother.
Then, the child asked Stamkos if he could also get something special for the captain’s old children.
This was just an amazing moment between the boy and Stammer and went viral on social media. This is what the Christmas spirit is all about.
Before the 2023-24 campaign got underway, Stamkos had expressed his frustration in the Lightning not negotiating a contract extension with him this summer. The Bolts do not appear any closer to reaching a deal with the veteran forward and it was even mentioned that Tampa wouldn’t be devastated to lose its captain as Stammer could be a free agent comes July 2024.
While the team may consider moving Stamkos closer to the trade deadline, it is easy to see that his departure would be a huge loss to the community.
Stamkos is currently playing the final season of his eight-year contract, which carries an annual cap hit of $8.5 million as well as a full no-movement clause. Rumours have linked him to different clubs that could come calling, including the Boston Bruins. The Toronto Maple Leafs were also heavily involved in trying to acquire Stamkos once he became a free agent in the summer of 2016 before Stamkos decided to re-sign with Tampa. They could once again make serious push for him.
In the past months, GM BriseBois has mentioned that he isn’t planning on holding negotiations throughout the season, which only adds to the speculation that Stamkos could be on the move.
It probably does not matter to this fan who will remain a Stamkos fan for life after this wonderful experience with the superstar forward.
