Extremely awkward moment during Canucks' “Kiss Me I'm Irish Cam.”

Canucks make some fans uncomfortable.

The Kiss Cam has been a long held tradition in the world of sports and it often leads to moments that can both be endearing and even sometimes comical. In more recent times however sports franchises have begun to manufacture those moments on their own and I suspect that this was exactly the case this week during a Vancouver Canucks game at Rogers Arena.

Sometimes the moments can be amazing and sometimes they can come off as a little too forced and based on the reaction to this particular moment it appears to have struck a chord somewhere in the middle of the two. Some fans loved it, some fans fell for it hook, line and sinker, while others expressed their displeasure at what does appear to be a rather obvious attempt at faking a controversial moment during a kiss cam.

In this particular scenario the event that appears to have been staged featured a man and a woman sitting with an empty seat between the two of them. The Canucks in-arena announcer can then be heard prodding two people who he assumes "don't know each other" to get on with it and kiss anyways, which they eventually agree to do. This results in a cheer from the crowd and up until this point everything seems to be pretty normal.

After a few more fans are shown giving each other a kiss for the Kiss Cam however the camera eventually pans back to the two, only this time there's another man in the shot and he plays it up as though he and the woman in question are in a relationship. The reaction from the Canucks' crowd is mixed, there are some laughs but I would argue that it produced a larger share of groans from Canucks fans who didn't seem thrilled about the awkward moment being caught on camera.

Again before anyone gets upset about this, I strongly suspect that this event was entirely staged, although I must admit I don't have any actual evidence to support that belief.

What did you think? Was it a funny moment from the Canucks? Or was it a bit too much for your liking?
