The buzz is so loud in Edmonton after the Oilers failed to the worst team in the NHL with the San Jose Sharks getting a 3-2 win on Thursday night. Some fans and pundits are wondering what will come first : head coach Jay Woodcroft getting fired, general manager Ken Holland getting the boot or him making a monster trade to shake things up.

It appears that the latter option almost took place on Wednesday as Elliotte Friedman reports on Friday’s 32 Thoughts podcast with Jeff Marek that the Oilers were reportedly “on the precipice of a big move”, but it fell through.

“I don’t know what happened… but I had people say to me, watch the Oilers in goal, they’re up to something, and they weren’t talking about Campbell.”

It is clear that the Oilers need a big shakeup. However, trades aren’t easy to pull off in the current setting of the NHL, with most teams being cap-strapped and still fighting to be contenders this early in the season. But Holland has got to be working the phones to try and figure that out!

Some trade scenarios have surfaced, along with the fantasy idea that captain Connor McDavid will demand a move out of Edmonton, but very little details have emerged on what the Oilers attempted to pull off earlier this week or what they might try to get done in the coming days.

The Oilers will travel to Seattle on Saturday to face the Kraken. Will it be with a new head coach or a new player on board as chatter won’t quiet down now that Edmonton… After falling to the Sharks, which was the Oilers’ fourth consecutive loss, it brings Edmonton tied with San Jose at the bottom of the NHL standings with five points each.

Something has to happen in Edmonton. Let’s see what it is!
