A fan has been seriously injured following an altercation in Boston on Saturday during a National Hockey League game.

The incident occurred during a Saturday afternoon game contested between the hometown Boston Bruins and New York Rangers, with the incident in question happening just after 3:00 pm in the afternoon.

A fight broke out in the crowd between two men and ended with one fan falling down the staircase in horrific fashion according to early reports coming out of Boston. The fan who fell in the lower bowl of TD Garden Arena, the home arena of the NHL's Boston Bruins, has since been transported to hospital.

The scene appears to have been truly horrifying and chaotic, but I am happy to report that initial indications are that the injured fan is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Anyone who has been to an NHL arena knows how painful the idea of falling down a staircase inside the arena would be, and this fan is lucky that he wasn't more seriously injured today.

The second fan involved in the incident has been detained and was subsequently arrested following an investigation into this matter. A TD Garden spokesperson has also issued a statement following today's unfortunate events.

"[We] are fully cooperating with authorities and have no further details to share at this time," said the spokesperson as per Boston 25.

I can only hope that the injured fan is going to be ok and that anyone who needs to face justice for their actions in this incident will do so.

Stay tuned for more details on this developing story.
