With top-line center Travis Zajac sidelined for 4-6 months, it seems very likely that 18-year-old Nico Hischier will crack the New Jersey Devils' roster in 2017-18.

The No. 1 overall pick in 2017 was signed to the maximum three-year, entry-level contract for salary and performance bonuses over the summer. The Swiss forward had 38 goals and 48 assists last season for the Halifax Mooseheads in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and dominated for Team Switzerland at the World Juniors.

While he's somewhat undersized at 6-foot-1 and 176 pounds, Hischier possesses tremendous hockey intelligence and is very skilled and responsible at both ends of the ice. Hischier has the skill to slide right into the Devils' top-six this season and could play alongside the likes of goal-scorers Taylor Hall, Drew Stafford and Kyle Palmieri.

New Jersey was one of the lowest-scoring teams in the NHL last season and has missed the playoffs for five straight seasons, so even if Hischier lands a permanent gig with quality ice time, it could be challenging for him to put up impressive point totals.

If he makes the Devils opening night roster, how many points do you see the youngster getting in 2017-18?
