Massive early lead for the Senators while chants against GM Chris Drury erupt in the stands, underscoring the Rangers’ growing frustration.
The boo birds are out early at the Madison Square Garden on Wednesday as the Rangers host the Ottawa Senators.
That’s because the Sens took an early 2-0 lead as the Blue Shirts only managed to get a single shot on goal in the first six minutes of the game.
The fanbase at MSG is clearly restless and started booing, with some fans even getting a “Fire Drury” chant going.
The Senators are looking to get a second win in a row after coming undone in recent weeks, especially when insane rumours emerged last week on the state of the dressing room, a rumour that essentially stated that goalie Linus Ullmark’s teammates had kicked him off the team for exposing some of his teammates for cheating on their wives. In particular captain Brady Tkachuk was implicated in the rumors, leading him to make a strong denial to the media. He called the rumor ‘made up bullshit’ and admonished media members for spreading a false narrative.
Since, the Sens have not only provided a positive update on the return of Ullmark, but have also signed veteran netminder James Reimer to a contract. He is the backup in New York tonight.
And then it was 3-0…
For the Rangers, who have landed in last place in the Eastern Conference, it’s easy to see they are frustrated and have perhaps given up on the season.
The fans at MSG have made it clear: they have given up on general manager Chris Drury.
And then it was 4-0, with five seconds to go in the first frame… The buzzer went off and fans were visibly furious and booing.
Drury only faces more heat in the coming weeks, especially if things don’t improve on the ice. Drury may be forced to take a selling approach at the trade deadline and this may be his final workload…
Things only got worse as the game went on...
