We love good hockey humour. And what fans pulled off in San Jose last night is a quality move.

The Sharks were looking for the playoff clincher last night as the Florida Panthers rolled into town. The Panthers denied the Sharks of that privilege in a 4-2 win, especially thanks in part to forward Mike Hoffman who recorded the game-winning goal and added an assist.

While the Sharks players might have forgotten about Hoffman on the ice, the fans in the stands surely didn't. As you remember, Hoffman was originally traded from the Ottawa Senators to the Sharks last summer, who then flipped him to Florida. Though he spent a grand total of three hours as a member of the Sharks, fans decided to display a mock retired Sharks banner for Hoffman during the game.

While it might have been a mock banner for the veteran forward, his reaction to it was priceless. Hoffman admitted that he was moved by the gesture of the fans in San Jose and added that he would like to get in touch with its creator to bring it back home with him to Florida.

"I saw that. I appreciate the respect for the fans there. I’ll try to reach out and contact the fan to get that from him."

I am not sure the fan did it to be nice... however, it sure caught the attention of everyone around the league, including Hoffman himself.

The Panthers managed to record to their third straight win following a six-game skid. However, this one will remain special for Hoffman for an entirely different reason.
