The NHL once again leaves everyone scratching their heads with another bizarre call.
The National Hockey League's situation room has once again left fans and pundits alike scratching their heads after yet another confusing goaltender interference call on Saturday afternoon.
This one occurred early on, during the opening minutes of the very first period of Saturday's game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Winnipeg Jets. It was Winnipeg Jets forward Morgan Barron who would put the puck in the back of the net in rather bizarre fashion, but the issue here was that Baron sent Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson slamming into Penguins goaltender Arturs Silovs, making it impossible for Silovs to get into position for a save.
To be clear it was Karlsson that made the contact with Silovs, but there was no doubt that Karlsson was pushed into the goaltender by Baron's own momentum on the play. Here is a look at the replay:
With Silovs so clearly knocked out of position and the cause being Baron himself, it seemed as though many believed the goal would be overturned. In fact when the decision came down that this would be ruled a good goal, even Jets writer Mike McIntyre was left stunned by the decision.
"And the Jets go to the power play following the failed Pittsburgh challenge, which I suspect is going to unleash a new round of goalie interference debates around the NHL," wrote McIntyre following the ruling.
Did the NHL make the right call? Or are you just as confused as everyone else seems to be? Let me know what you think of this one in the comments.
