Fans push back on Oilers writer Jim Matheson's latest hot take
Well, he's making his feelings on the subject clear. But so have the fans.
Longtime Edmonton Oilers reporter and Hockey Hall of Fame journalist Jim Matheson has seen everything from the highest of highs to the lowest of the lows in his years covering the team since 1979.
Of course, he made headlines earlier this season with his highly publicized spat with forward Leon Draisaitl, asking the German star why he was "so pissy" in a particularly tense exchange.
And now, he's sure to have more people talking with his opinion on why certain players would rather not play in Canadian cities. In Matheson's mind, it has nothing to do with the tax situation, COVID-19 protocols, or the like - but rather because they don't want to feel any pressure.
He writes:
"When NHLers consistently have Canadian teams on their no-trade lists, that, to me, means they don't like playing in rabid hockey markets with pressure."
Well, that's certainly one way to look at things. But judging by the responses that began pouring in, not too many fans agreed with what he had to say. Take a look at a sampling of some of the better retorts that Matheson received.
