A trip to a hockey tournament turns fatal after a snowplow loses control.
A terrible tragedy has unfolded in the state of Colorado after a group of very young hockey players were involved in what we now know is a fatal crash.
A father has lost his life through no fault of his own after a snowplow slammed into the the van that he was driving on his way to a hockey tournament where his daughter, a member of the Santa Clarita Lady Flyers, was set to play. The team officially confirmed the news in a statement on social media.
Our 12AA Lady Flyers were on their way to Denver, Colorado, to participate in a WGHL weekend. We ask that you keep our hockey families in your prayers and that you give them time to sort through the details of this tragic event.
Team President, Prescott Littlefield, also released a statement of his own.
Dear Flyers,
This is a message I never imagined I would send. I'm writing to confirm that there was a terrible traffic accident this morning in Colorado involving members of our Lady Flyers 12AA team. Words cannot express the heartbreak we are experiencing. Please hold these families in your prayers. As we receive more information of how we can help during this time, I will make sure to keep everyone informed.
With My Deepest Sorrow,
Prescott Littlefield
The man who lost his life was the driver of the van but several others were injured including one child that was airlifted to hospital after suffering critical injuries. Four additional children and three additional adults were also transported to hospital by ambulance.
Thankfully Prescott Littlefield was able to confirm that it sounds like everyone else is going to be ok, however a man has lost his life and a family has lost a father as a result of these terrible events.
"It's devastating, "said Littlefield as per ABC 7 News. "It hits home really hard for everybody."
My deepest and most sincere condolences go out to all of those that have been impacted by this terrible event.
