Filip Chytil leaves New York amidst scary health situation
The forward has been missing since Nov. 2, a span of 23 games.

Early in November, New York Rangers forward Filip Chytil was placed on injured reserve with a concussion and updates on his condition and his recovery haven’t been encouraging since.
On Friday, the New York Post reports that Chytil has returned home to Czechia to ‘reset’ for his next phase of recovery as he continues to skate on his own under the supervision of the trainer and skills coach with whom he works in the offseason. He is scheduled to fly home Friday night.
“The decision, reached mutually by Chytil’s camp and team hierarchy, will allow No. 72 to experience the next phase of his recovery at home in a familiar environment where he will be surrounded by friends and family,” writes Larry Brooks in the Post.
The concussion is believed to have occured on Nov. 2nd in a game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Late in the second period, Chytil left the contest with the delayed effects of an early first-period collision that night with Jesper Fast, that probably probably resulted in the fourth concussion of his career.
Chytil is only 24 years old, but has been sidelined 10 different times in-season since 2018-19. And let’s not forget he was missing from training camp for two weeks with an unidentified upper-body injury.
The Rangers better take their time with his recovery and while it can be seen as negative news for Chytil to head back home, this is probably what’s best at this time in his progress.
Chytil had posted six assists in 10 games this season prior to getting sidelined with the injury. While fans would love to see him collect more, the focus needs to be on his health and his quality of life moving forward. He will be able to do so at home in familiar surroundings.
If Chytil cannot return for the remainder of the 2023-24 regular season calendar, the Rangers would gain approximately $3.8 Million of additional space off the center’s $4.437.500M cap hit and could make significant changes with the money.
And the cap would not be affected afterwards if Chytil were to return for the playoffs.
But first, let’s focus on Chytil’s recovery and better health.
