He's making a major bet on himself, having walked away from nearly $5 million with the Detroit Red Wings - and now, he's hoping that his gamble will pay off.

Filip Zadina has agreed to join the San Jose Sharks this afternoon, signing a one-year pact worth a reported $1.1 million. It's a major gamble for Zadina, who came into the NHL with high expectations after being selected with the 6th overall pick in 2018 by the Red Wings but never lived up to the potential he was thought to have possessed.

This past season, Zadina went scoreless in the first nine games before being injured thanks to a broken bone that was the result of a shot block. He only managed to light the lamp three times in 30 games, a far cry from the potential Detroit saw in him upon his being drafted.

Will the much-needed change of scenery benefit him?
