They’ve been hearing the pleas of the fans since the first game in 2017, and now a much-needed change has been made!

The Detroit Red Wings announced on social media this afternoon that a new goal horn has been installed at Little Caesars Arena, replacing the muffled recording!

Fans immediately noticed that the sound of the horn at Little Caesars Arena was a muffled recording of the classic sound from Joe Louis Arena. Take a listen for yourself to hear the distinct differences:

“There’s nothing like the sound and feeling of a goal horn reverberating through a raucous hockey arena and we’re excited to debut a new, classic Hockeytown goal horn on Opening Night at Little Caesars Arena,” said Ryan Gustafson, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of Ilitch Sports + Entertainment. “This specific model of goal horn is a distinct part of our identity as Hockeytown, harkening back to Joe Louis Arena and paying homage to legendary performances of the past.”

The original reasoning given for not having taken the horn from The Joe to LCA was a building code violation due to a potential fire hazard thanks to the use of Nitrogen gas.

The new horn will be ready to make its long awaited debut tomorrow night when the Red Wings host the rival Tampa Bay Lightning in their home opener! Cannot wait to hear it!
