Fans who tuned in to Saturday night's National Hockey League game between the Seattle Kraken and Ottawa Senators were left horrified when, during the game's opening period, veteran forward Jaden Schwartz was struck in the face by the skate of Ottawa Senators forward Nick Cousins.

It was a complete accident with Cousins on the receiving end of a big hit from the Kraken's Eeli Tolvanen just moments before, a hit that sent Cousins and his feet flying into the air. Unfortunately one of Cousins' legs would come up at the worst possible angle, causing the blade of his skate to strike Schwartz right in the face at a terrible looking angle.

While Cousins does have a reputation as one of the dirtiest players in the entire NHL, I don't think you can reasonably accuse him of having done anything intentional here.

Here is the replay:

We now have our first official update on Schwartz since the injury and unfortunately there is no good news to share. On Monday, the Kraken officially announced that Schwartz would be out indefinitely and quite frankly who can blame the man given what he just went through.

Still no word on what type of injuries Schwartz may have suffered as a result of this terrible incident, but given today's announcement it can't be good.

Schwartz had 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points in 42 games on the season prior to being injured on Saturday night.

I am wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
