Any takers?
This just in, five players have been placed on waivers today on the opening night of the NHL's 2025-26 season.
Check it out:
The most intriguing players are obviously goaltenders Ville Husso and Alexandar Georgiev.
Both goaltenders have struggled the past couple seasons and could be looking for a fresh start... again.
Husso played on 13 NHL games last season split between the Detroit Red Wings and the Anaheim Ducks. He managed to leverage a good season with the St. Louis Blues back in 2021-22 and scored a lucrative free agent contract from Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman back in July, 2022. He earned $4.75 million against the cap until his contract expired this past offseason. He was re-signed by the Ducks at a more reasonable $2.2 million cap hit this past June.
As for Georgiev, he's on his third team in the past calendar year...
The Sabres picked him up on a league minimum contract after an absolutely dreadful season split between the San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche. While he's a cheap option, he simply hasn't been up to NHL level in a couple years now, so I don't see a team taking a chance on him unless forced into it by injury.
Stay tuned.
