The Flames filed for club-elected salary arbitration with restricted free agent Matthew Tkachuk on Monday, another sign that things are going downhill fast in Calgary. There is a strong feeling that Tkachuk has indicated to the Flames that he isn’t interested in extending his stay in Calgary. Ans so trade chatter is getting very loud, so much so that Flames insider Eric Francis went so far as to say that Tkachuk’s “days in Calgary are over.” He also mentioned how a transaction involving the St. Louis Blues could be in the mix and then, we find out this:

According to St. Louis insider Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic who spoke on the air of 101 ESPN, there was a significant offer made to the Flames for Tkachuk by the Blues, but Calgary refused.

It’s a significant package that was presented to the Flames, per Rutherford:

“(I) do hear things, like the Blues trying to put together a package of Jordan Kyrou, Torey Krug, and a first-round draft pick. Those types of packages to get a deal for Tkachuk…Was the deal accepted (by Calgary)? No, because the deal wasn’t made, but (I) hear things like that.”

Wow!

Tkachuk is coming off a three-year, $21-million deal with the Flames and is currently a restricted free agent. On Sunday, he was not one of the 23 players who elected arbitration.

The star forward took part in all 82 games for the Calgary Flames last season, scoring 42 goals and registering 104 points. He also registered 10 points in 12 games during the Stanley Cup playoffs, where the Flames were eliminated in the second round by the Edmonton Oilers.

There is a sense that he wants out and the Flames simply couldn’t ose him for nothing like they did Johnny Gaudreau, who tested free agency last week and signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets. They bought more time with filing arbitration and maybe it will be to have another look at that trade offer…
