The Calgary Flames made an interesting announcement on Wednesday, revealing that they had signed veteran defenseman Matt Bartkowski to a professional tryout offer.

Bartkowski has not played in the NHL at all this season but did appear in 34 games for the Providence Bruins but was released from that contract prior to signing the PTO with the Calgary. His time in Providence saw him score 2 goals and record 8 assists for a total of 10 points and 27 penalty minutes as well as a plus minus rating of 0.

Early reports suggested that the Flames would sign him to a two-way deal but that has not yet materialized at this time.
