Flames coach takes indefinite leave of absence on Sunday.
Calgary Flames coach Brad Larsen announces he is taking an indefinite leave of absence.
The Calgary Flames will have to proceed without one member of their coaching staff for an undetermined period of time.
On Sunday, the team announced that assistant coach Brad Larsen would be taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team with a "family matter" being the reason for his absence. No further details have been provided regarding the nature of that matter at this time.
First and foremost my thoughts are with Larsen and his family and I hope that whatever matter has pulled Larsen away from the team will be resolved in a quick and positive matter.
Larsen only just recently joined the Flames coaching staff, having been hired in June of 2024. Larsen previously served as the head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets for two seasons and was an assistant coach with that organization for 7 seasons prior to taking over as head coach.
Larsen also played 294 games in the NHL as a member of both the Colorado Avalanche and the now defunct Atlanta Thrashers, accumulating 19 goals and 29 assists for a total of 48 points as a forward.
Again I would like to wish Larsen and his family all of the best as they deal with this matter away from the ice.
Stay tuned for more on this developing story.
