This just in, the Calgary Flames have extended their entire management team to two year contract extensions.
This means President Don Maloney, GM Craig Conroy, Senior VP of Hockey Dave Nonis and VP of Hockey Brad Pascall.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue leading this hockey club,” Conroy said in a media release today. “We have made important strides the last two years, and I believe in the culture of this team. We are excited about the future, and we are all committed to do everything we can to bring success to this franchise.”
Fan reaction seems to be mixed on this news. Most fans are appreciative of the work that Conroy has done in his two years as GM, but believe that he's hampered a bit by his direct boss, Don Maloney.
Fans have been calling for Maloney's dismissal all season and today's news ensures that he'll be in charge for at least a couple more years. The sentiment amongst Flames fans is that Maloney is pulling the strings for owner Murray Edwards and is handicapping Conroy's ability to make transactions on his own.
