This week, right before head coach Mike Babcock was fired, the Toronto Maple Leafs held a players-only meeting to find solution to their losing streak and lack of power on the ice.

A few days later, Babs got the boot.

The Calgary Flames are now going through the same step as the Leafs, holding a players-only meeting on Thursday night following another brutal loss, this time at the hands of the St. Louis Blues who shut them down in a 5-0 win.

“Just a lot of honesty between guys,” captain Mark Giordano said of the meeting, per TSN. “We all love each other in here. Right now, we have a lot of guys that are trying to be the guy who’s going to change the tide and change the momentum.”
“We know we have to be better collectively as a group,” Giordano added.”Right now, we have a lot of guys that are trying to be the guy who’s going to change the tide and change the momentum. We just need to know it doesn’t work that way.”

When asked about the meeting in which he wasn’t invited, head coach Bill Peters talked about the emotions rather than the meaning behind what might have taken place in that room.

“We were frustrated obviously and you can see that and you can tell by the fact the guys had a little meeting after the game that you’re well aware of,” Peters said.”Frustration would be the right word. We’ve got to stay together and work our way through it.”

The Flames will face the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday and we will see then if the meeting brought something out of the players.

Or maybe the head coach who is certainly feeling the hot seat under him at this point!
