The veteran blueliner took a slapshot to the head last night while blocking a shot.

A scary situation in Montreal's Bell Centre yesterday evening after veteran Calgary Flames defenseman Chris Tanev blocked a shot off his face during a crucial penalty kill.

With the Habs' PP absolutely buzzing, Kirby Dach sent over a one-timer pass for Nick Suzuki who dropped to a knee and absolutely PIPED one directly at the side of Tanev's head. Tanev, as you might expect, was down on a knee to block the shooting lane.

Tanev went down in a heap immediately and players rushed to have the officials blow the play down. He lay prone on the ice for some time, but was eventually helped off the ice by teammates and trainers.

Here's the entire sequence:

Tanev is an absolute warrior. And I'm honestly not too surprised that he has already been discharged from the hospital.

The Flames reported last night that Tanev is in good health and that his tests all came back negative. As a result, he'll re-join the team for the rest of their roadtrip.

No word yet on whether or not he'll be in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Vancouver Canucks. Stay tuned.
