Flames confirm the rumors and officially announce Connor Zary has been signed.
The Calgary Flames have officially confirmed what some have been reporting for a little over a day now.
On Friday, Flames insider Eric Francis reported that the Flames and former first round pick Connor Zary had agreed to a 3 year deal. Francis reported that the deal would carry an average annual value of $3.775 million and it seems that his sources were spot on.
Earlier today the Flames confirmed the report from Francis when they officially announced that Zary had agreed to a new deal, a 3 year contract at the exact number that Francis had reported on Friday.
Zary, a former first round pick that the Flames selected 24th overall at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, is coming off of a pair of solid seasons in which he showed that he belongs at the NHL level. In just 54 games last season, Zary produced 13 goals and 14 assists for a total of 27 points over that stretch of play.
Zary was coming off of an entry-level-contract that had him earning $863,000 per season making this a rather significant increase in pay for the young 23 year old forward.
This is of course only the beginning and I expect this new deal will also come with a more prominent role in the Flames lineup beginning this season.
