Flames, Oilers officially make NHL history in crazy 2nd period
The second period has been nuts at the Saddledome!
The Battle of Alberta is never boring, and in their first postseason meeting since 1991, the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers certainly aren't disappointing the fans in attendance and watching at home.
The Flames are facing a must-win situation, having fallen into a 1-3 deficit against the Oilers after having dropped the last three matchups in a row. And the second period has been absolutely crazy.
Already leading 1-0 after a first period tally from Andrew Mangiapane, it was Mikael Backlund with a slick deflection past Oilers goaltender Mike Smith. However, the Oilers refused to go away, quickly tying the game with tallies from Darnell Nurse and Jesse Puljujarvi. And that's when the fun really started.
The Oilers seized a 3-2 lead thanks to a power play goal from the red hot Zach Hyman, burying a loose puck in the goal mouth past Jacob Markstrom for his 6th tally of the series.
However, just 15 seconds later, the Flames would once again tie the score thanks to Johnny Gaudreau:
16 seconds later, it would be Calle Jarnkrok getting in on the fun with his first goal of the postseason:
Not to be outdone, the Oilers would once again respond, courtesy of an Evan Bouchard goal to knot things right back up at 4-4:
The four goals that the Oilers and Flames combined for in the short span of just 1:111 set an NHL postseason record for the fastest four goals scored, breaking the mark previously held by the Flyers and Maple Leafs in 1976 of four goals in 1:33:
We can't wait for what the 3rd period brings!
