The Flames may not want one of their young talents at risk.
Calgary Flames president Brian Burke hinted that one of his young talents may not be eligible for the World Cup of Hockey.
During a recent radio interview with Sportsnet's 960 Burke indicated that the offseason hip surgery performed on Jyrki Jokipakka, could leave his eligibility for the tournament in doubt. While Jokipakka is expected to be healthy in time for the tournament, there is also the question of whether or not the Flames want to risk a potential re-injury while playing for Finland.
The announcement would certainly come as a disappointment to Jokipakka who was named to the roster, but it's hard to blame the Flames for their concern after such a significant surgery to a 24 year old defenseman.
