“This will not be popular with Flames fans.”
On Thursday morning, the Calgary Flames recalled forward Matthew Phillips from their AHL affiliate.
The young forward is tied for the AHL lead in goals with 15 and the leader in points with 30. He has played in 20 games with the Calgary Wranglers. He was looking forward to his season debut, possibly on Friday against the Columbus Blue Jackets after spending the day meeting with media members.
However, the Flames opted instead to have Friday morning’s call-up Radim Zohorna in the lineup.
Insider Eric Francis explained the controversial quite well when he states that “This will not be popular with Flames fans.” Phillips has been a hot-button topic among Flames fans this season as Calgary posts a 13-10-3 record. They have struggled to live up to the lofty expectations of a busy off-season, especially with additions up front.
Zohorna is the one that gets a shot tonight in Columbus, he who has scored 16 points in 20 AHL games this season and has 25 career NHL games under his belt with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
