The Calgary Flames now have a big player in their arsenal as future Hall of Famer Jaromir Jagr officially signed his one-year, $1-million deal (plus $1 million in potential bonuses).

According to the Calgary Sun, there is one major reason why the Canadian team was able to pull this off. Jagr's relationship with his former coach in Dallas, Glen Gulutzan, sparked both sides to agree on a deal.

"Without that connection the Flames might have passed on the Hall of Famer given the legendary stories that surround the larger-than-life legend," you can read in the Sun.

“I always find you have to separate fact from fiction. The ol’ ‘the fish was this big, it was this big, it was this big,’ so you have to determine what the real story is. So when you have someone who has been around it, it’s first-hand knowledge. They had a good relationship. It was critical,” said GM Brad Treliving.

An element that other teams might have lacked or forgotten about to land an amazing player!
