The Calgary Flames might be sitting in first place in the Western Conference, it hasn't stopped some people from questioning the consistency in between the pipes.

And starting goalie Mike Smith has had enough...

On Tuesday, the Flames' netminder was asked once again about concerns in the crease in Calgary and balked back at reporters for reporting anything and not seeing how well he and backup David Rittich have done in net for the Flames.

"From who? From you guys?" asked Smith when told that there were some concerns from pundits on goaltending consistency. "From pundits? Oh that's important then..." he mocked further.
"I think I won five from the last six...? That's pretty good. I mean there's going to be ups and downs through the season, it's not always going to be roses,  but you can't let it spiral downhill and go out of control here. There are going to be little blimps on the radar, but everyone gets in a big panic when there's one game or two games here, but when you look over the course of the season, it evens itself out. You don't get to first place in the West by mediocre goaltending.
"There is no issue. You guys like to speculate and like to make up stories that aren't there and that's fine, but we know what's real and we know how we are capable of playing, so I don't think there's any worry in our minds."

There were rumors closer to the trade deadline last month that the Flames could be looking for an upgrade on the market, however, the Flames remain exceptionally quiet during the transaction period. The Flames had reportedly kick the tires on Detroit’s Jimmy Howard, however, nothing was done and the trade deadline came and went.

Maybe, as Smith seems to point out, this was another made-up story... the Flames believe they feel strong in between the pipes, and surely it will be put to the test during the postseason..
