Wild and Flyers make a 1 for 1 trade.
The Philadelphia Flyers and the Minnesota Wild have gotten the ball rolling on what should be an exciting week of trades in the National Hockey League.
On Sunday night, the Flyers officially announced that they had acquired journeyman forward Boris Katchouk from the Minnesota Wild in a one for one trade deal that sees 23 year old defenseman Roman Schmidt headed back the other way.
Katchouk is far and away the most experienced player in this deal with 179 games of NHL experience under his belt. Katchouk has 15 career goals and 21 career assists over that stretcj of play for a ttoal of 36 career points in the NHL thus far. Katchouk's NHL experience has come primarily as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks although he did spend time with the Tampa Bay Lightning who originally selected him in the second round (44th overall) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
Interestingly enough, Schmidt is also a product of the Tampa Bay Lightning organization having been selected in the third round (96th overall) of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Schmidt however has never played at the NHL level and has instead spent the last 3 years of his career in the American Hockey League. This season he has appeared in 16 games for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms but has no points over that stretch of play.
