TSN’s Darren Dreger has reported that the Philadelphia Flyers are taking calls on defenceman Ivan Provorov. There isn’t much time to do so, but seeing what teams have gotten in return for defensemen in recent trades, Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher is putting Provorov out there.

Dreger explains that, as with other top-four defensemen with term, Philadelphia will seek a a large offer to convince the team to move the Russian blue liner.

Fans are however wondering if contenders will be willing to part with a big package to land Provorov, who landed in a huge controversy earlier this season. As some of you may remember, back in January, Provorov did not want to wear the team’s Pride Night-themed warmup jersey, stating his religion as the main factor. The defenseman was the lone Flyer not to skate in warmups with the rest of his teammates wearing jerseys featuring a rainbow pattern on the nameplate and numbers, as well as sticks wrapped in Pride-themed tape.

However, following Provorov’s stance, other teams scaled back on scheduled their Pride event as players did not warmup with the themed jerseys. The New York Rangers and Islanders did not take part in the event.

I don’t see any of these two teams getting in the mix for Provorov, and it remains to be seen if the controversy would hinder his chances to be moved to a contender.

The 26-year-old defenseman has put up four goals and 22 points in 61 games with the Flyers this season. He is signed through the 2024-25 season at a cap hit of $6.75 million.
