AccordingFrank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News Flyers general manager Ron Hextall continues to be one of the most active GMs in the NHL, both in terms of looking for a deal, and the amount of offers he is receiving. According Seravalli many GMs are acting like "vultures" circling to try and get players at a low cost, GMs from teams like Arizon Dallas,, San Jose, and Edmonton. However Ron Hextall is no push over, we are talking about a man who as vice president and assistant general manager built a dynasty in Los Angeles, and while Hextall is willing to talk about moving key pieces like Sean Couturier, Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds the deal will have to include the trading partner taking on one of the Flyers less valued contracts like a Vinny Lecavalier or R.J. Umberger. From Hextall:
“Oh, you want that player? How about taking Umberger, in addition to what we want.”
So as things stand right now despite the numerous inquiries it does not appear any major move is on the horizon just yet, however if the Canadian dollar returns closer to parody the Flyers may have a lot more teams willing to negotiate a deal, taking on one of the Flyers hevay contracts with the current salary cap concerns seems to be the major issue preventing Hextall from completing a move.
