Chicago Blackhawks' forward Artemi Panarin is widely believed to be the front-runner for the Calder trophy, giving to the NHL's best first year player.

The Philadelphia Flyers could have a dark horse in their lineup that could win this race.

Shayne Gostisbehere has been playing real good hockey since joining the Flyers this season. Although if he isn't leading all rookies in scoring, the Ghost-man has been one of the most reliable player for Philly.

In only 26 games, the rookie defenseman has 17 points, including 3 overtime goals, leading the lead with Calgary Flames' Johnny Gaudreau. Gostisbehere 8 gaols is the most in franchise history, tied with Joni Pitkanen and Murray Baron. The Union College standout is 2nd amongst rookie defenseman in points, despite playing 21 fewer games than St-Louis Blues' Colton Parayko.

Gostisbehere might not win the Calder Trophy, but he definitely deserves to be at least mentioned in the nominations process.
