Insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period says there’s one team everyone needs to keep an eye on right now: the Philadelphia Flyers. According to Pagnotta, multiple clubs around the league are monitoring Philly closely, and if the Flyers end up making a move, it won’t be a simple cap dump or depth shuffle.

Instead, Pagnotta believes any deal coming out of Philadelphia will be a true hockey trade : talent going out, talent coming back.

That notion lines up with the reputation of general manager Daniel Brière, who has shown he’s not afraid to swing big when the right deal appears. And now, there’s growing speculation that one of the Flyers’ most intriguing assets could be in play with reports indicating that Owen Tippett could be the name to watch.

Tippett is signed long-term through the 2031–32 season at a $6.2 million AAV. However, a key detail is raising eyebrows around the league: his no-trade protection doesn’t kick in until July. That gives the Flyers complete flexibility right now if they choose to explore the market.

Tippett has started the 2025–26 season strong, posting five goals and one assist through 14 games. His combination of scoring ability, size, and term makes him a prime target for teams looking to add a top-six winger with years of control.

However, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman has admitted he’s confused by the chatter surrounding Tippett at this time.

“There have been a lot of rumours about Owen Tippett, I don’t get that one,” stated Friedman, adding he can’t really find much talk or prove that Tippett is available.

With several teams looking to shake up their rosters and the Flyers holding pieces that could fit a variety of needs, league chatter around them is starting to heat up.

League executives expect no shortage of interest, and if the Flyers truly open the door, trade talks could easily pick up steam as the calendar flips toward the back half of the season.
