As the Philadelphia Flyers get set to host their 50th anniversary regular season home opener, they have every intention of continuing to honor the late great Ed Snider.

During Flyers’ opening ceremonies at the Wells Fargo Center tonight which will include the presence of some of the franchise’s biggest legends and other video presentations, Snider’s banner will be raised to the rafters.

General manager Ron Hextall said that Snider “certainly deserves it.”

It will be a bittersweet honoring of the late founder of the Flyers franchise, as it will be the first time in franchise history that the team will be without Snider.

His banner will be slotted between retired jerseys as well as the two Stanley Cup banners hanging from the rafters.
