Flyers sign forward Noah Cates to an odd new contract

GM Daniel Briere is getting absolutely shredded by Flyers fans for this contract.

Philadelphia Flyers GM Daniel Briere announced today that the team has signed forward Noah Cates to a four year contract worth $4 million per season.

Reaction to the deal has been... mixed, to say the least.

While some die-hard Flyers fans are defending the deal, most fans are panning it as another overpay from Briere.

I mean, Cates is a 27 year old forward who has never hit the 20 goal plateau in his four year NHL career. He managed 17 goals and 37 points in 78 games this past season, by far his best season in the NHL. Cates plays mostly on the Flyers' third line, so he hypothetically could pop off for more goals/points if given more of an opportunity, but as it is it's tough to justify $4 million per season for a 3rd/4th line center.

Thoughts, Flyers fans?

Just look at some of these reactions from fans online:
