Flyers, Simmonds, dodge a potential bullet.

A big break for Wayne Simmonds and the Flyers.

The Philadelphia Flyers and forward Wayne Simmonds appear to have dodge a potentially major bullet.

There was some belief that some of the more controversial incidents in Sunday's game between bitter rivals the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Flyers could result in suspensions to Penguin Tom Kuhnackl as well as Simmonds. Particularly in the case of Simmonds his slash to the throat of Penguins goaltender Matt Murray could have easily been viewed as a deliberate attack with a stick to the head area of another player, something the NHL has cracked down on hard lately.

Fortunately for the Flyers, and frankly for the Penguins as well, Flyers insider Sam Carchidi is now reporting that neither player will face additional discipline from the NHL's Department of Player Safety. With defenseman Andrew Macdonald already sidelined with an injury, the Flyers could ill afford to lose another player ahead of a huge game against Detroit on Wednesday.
