We have a trade.

On Sunday, National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman hinted at the fact that there was a trade on the horizon with the Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Ivan Fedotov at the center of it. According to Friedman, the deal would send to Fedotov to the Columbus Blue Jackets, and we now know that this is indeed the case.

According to a report from Jackie Spiegel of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the move has in fact gone through with the Flyers receiving a sixth round draft selection from the Blue Jackets. It's not much of a return but it does allow the Flyers to clear $3.275 million off of their salary cap so it could open up additional avenues to add players for the Flyers moving forward.

Fedotov had not looked good with the Flyers so it makes sense to see them moving on despite the promise many believed he showed in the Kontinental Hockey League. In his first season with the Flyers he appeared in 3 catastrophic games that saw him record a 4.95 goals against average and a .811 save percentage. His second season was better but still not up to NHL standards with a 3.15 goals against average and a .880 save percentage over 26 games on a Flyers team that admittedly had its fair share of struggles.

Hopefully a fresh start will give Fedotov a chance to shine, something both the Flyers and their fans are likely concerned about. The last time the Flyers traded a goaltender to the Blue Jackets it was Sergei Bobrovsky being moved in 2012, a man that has gone on to become one of the most well respected goaltenders in the NHL since that trade.
