Flyers turn down haul for key piece on trade block!
Should Philadelphia have pulled the trigger?

The Philadelphia Flyers are expected to get back on the right track with GM Daniel Briere taking over this season and being fully invested in a rebuild. He’s already dealt away forward Kevin Hayes and defenseman Ivan Provorov and is still looking for trade partners for veterans Cam Atkinson and Scott Laughton to free up $8.875 million in cap space. The Flyers are also open to a potential transaction including goalie Carter Hart, that could add an additional $3.979 million.
However, insider Frank Seravalli recently reported that Briere turned down a haul for Laughton. When the Flyers ironed out the details of the Hayes’ trade to St. Louis, the Blues reportedly also took at shot at acquiring Laughton in return for a “25th or 29th overall pick, future 2nd round pick.” Seravalli added that other teams were in the mix for Laughton, which might have encourage Briere to turn down that offer.
Briere could be looking to make a deal with cap-strapped teams that can sent some picks and prospects to help Philly’s rebuild. The new GM appears to be patient with what the Flyers can become, and he might have the same attitude when it comes to moving Laughton, and Atkinson and Hart for that matter.
Let’s see if a trade gets done before the start of the 2023-24 season.
