A slightly altered look with a throwback to the 1990s 'Legion of Doom' era in Philly.

Earlier this season NHL jersey and logo specialist Chris Creamer of SportsLogos.net, reported that the Philadelphia Flyers will be changing both their home and road uniforms for the 2023-24 season.

Yesterday, the Flyers teased that change with a video shared to their social media.

Not much to go by in that video, but today the Flyers officially unveiled the look.

While these jerseys don't look terribly different from the ones the team has wore the past decade, there are some noteworthy changes.

Most notably, the striping down the shoulders and arms has been widened and the sleeve numbers have changed to a single-color design, which is a nice nod to the franchise's original uniforms that they wore from 1967 until 1970.

The large stripe at the bottom of the jersey has been changed to black, which reminiscent of the uniforms worn from 1982-2002. This is the part that gives me big time 'Legion of Doom' vibes. The bottom stripe used to be white on the orange uniforms and orange on the white uniforms, and it sat above the bottom of the jersey.

The color has also slightly changed back to the "burnt orange" shade that was used during the '80s and '90s.

"This New Era of Orange is all about honoring our franchise's storied past while writing an exciting, new chapter of Flyers history," CEO and governor Daniel J. Hilferty said. "These new uniforms represent that sentiment perfectly with details to honor previous eras paired with a fresh, modern design."

This is the first time since 2010 that the Flyers have made any design changes and it's fitting given all the on ice and off ice changes that the team is going through this offseason.

So there you have it... a new twist on an old design, which personally I think is just fine. To me, the Flyers have one of the most recognizable jerseys and logos in the sport and I'd be very wary of messing with it. Thankfully, it seems like the team's braintrust recognizes this and isn't interested in creating the latest fad or trend with a brand new look.
