It's finally here! 161 days after the game 7 loss to the New York Rangers the Flyers finally hit the ice again and play meaningful hockey tonight when they open the regular season. They have a very tough task right out the gate however as they take on last years best team in the East, the Boston Bruins. There is without a doubt a rivalry steadily building between these two clubs, they have met twice in the postseason over the last decade, and they also have played two Winter Classic games against one other during that stretch. The Flyers will be out for revenge after losing all three meetings with the Bruins last season, in fact the Flyers' last victory over the Bruins dates back to April of 2013. Many pundits still consider Boston the overwhelming favorite to secure the first place seed in the East, but there is some good news for Flyers fans. The Bruins due to salary cap constraints were forced to ship off star defenseman Johnny Boychuk to the Islanders during the offseason, and they also lost Jerome Iginla who left as a free agent after being a major contributor for Boston last season. If the Flyers can get a repeat performance from Steve Mason, and he stats healthy, they are in prime position to make another postseason appearance this year. They will also be looking for more offensive production from Sean Couturier, a player they hope will reach the potential they believe he has hits season. And of course Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmons will be expected to lead the charge on offense all while being defensively responsible to help mask some of the weaknesses on the blue line. Vegas currently has Boston anywhere from a 1.5:1 to a 2:1 favorite in the game, do you think the Flyers can pull out a win in their season opener?
