Foote thrown out of World Juniors quarterfinal less than one minute into the game

Less than one minute into this morning’s quarterfinal game between Canada and Slovakia and Canadian forward Nolan Foote has been tossed from the game.

Just 53 seconds in, Foote came flying down the right wing in the Slovakian zone and absolutely obliterated Slovak forward Kristian Kovacik.

Here’s the hit in question:

I mean… it’s a big hit… but is it worth a game ejection? Wake up, refs…

Am I missing something here? Foote's elbows aren't up and he doesn't leave his feet to make the hit. What gives? This is just a big hit on a player who should have had his head up to start the game. Then again... this is European officiating, maybe I shouldn't be surprised?

Yep... blown call by the refs. No way to defend this. Time to start making these guys accountable.

Thankfully Canada was able to kill the five minute major and even cashed in on a goal from captain Barrett Hayton shortly after. No harm done.
