Late last night Carolina Hurricanes team reporter Walt Ruff announced that the Hurricanes have added forwards Cory Conacher and Brendan Perlini to their training camp roster on professional tryout (PTO) contracts.

More from Ruff:

RALEIGH, NC. - The Carolina Hurricanes added two more skaters on professional tryout agreements (PTOs) Monday, welcoming forwards Cory Conacher and Brendan Perlini.

Conacher, 33, will vie for an NHL contract ahead of his 13th professional season. A veteran of 193 games in the league, the 5-foot-9, 181 lbs. winger has been one of the most accomplished scorers in the American Hockey League over the course of his career. Publishing 340 points in 371 games, Concacher won the AHL's Most Valuable Player Award en route to a Calder Cup with the Norfolk Admirals in 2012.

Perlini, 27, comes to Raleigh after skating in 26 games with the Chicago Wolves during the 2022-23 season. A first-round draft pick of the Arizona Coyotes in 2014, the 6-foot-4, 212 lbs. winger has dressed in 262 career NHL games. In addition to his time in the desert, Perlini has played stints with Chicago, Detroit, and Edmonton between 2018-2022.

As mentioned above, the 33 year old Conacher and the 27 year old Perlini both spent last season in the AHL. The pair will be expected to help push the Hurricanes' young prospects at training camp and to vie for NHL contracts either in Carolina or elsewhere. Frankly, I don't think either has much shot of making the Hurricanes' final roster, but stranger things have happened.
