It had recently been reported that former first round pick Cody Hodgson was looking to make a comeback and it looks like he’s taken the first step. On Wednesday, it was confirmed that Hodgson has signed a professional tryout offer with the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals.

This is a second stint for Hodgson with the Admirals where he last played in during the 2015-16 season, splitting time between the Nashville Predators and their AHL farmclub. The 33-year-old retired after that season, joining the Predators’ youth hockey and fan development program as he was diagnosed with RYR-1-related malignant hyperthermia, a rare muscle disorder, dealing with “numerous injuries, severe symptoms, and episodes of rhabdomyolysis.”

Hodgson was selected 10th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in 2008 and was believed to be one of the top prospects in his class. He led Canada to gold at the 2009 World Junior Championship posting five goals and a tournament-leading 16 points in six games.

Throughout his career in the NHL, in 328 NHL games over six years split between the Canucks, Buffalo Sabres and Predators, Hodgson posted 64 goals and 142 points. He also had 60 points in 85 AHL games.

Hodgson comes as extra boost to the Admirals lineup as they are currently riding a five-game winning streak and are 9-1-0 over the past 10 games. Favourites to win the Calder Cup this season, the Admirals sit first in the Central Division with a 22-10-1 record through 33 games.
