Former Coyotes owner reportedly begging for tax dollars to fund new arena
This guy is just a complete clown.
Former Arizona Coyotes owner Alex Mereulo is once again trying to get a hockey arena built in the desert.
After failing miserably to keep the Coyotes afloat in Arizona, Mereulo has now turned his focus to Reno, Nevada and is attempting to build a rink for his AHL team, the Tucson Roadrunners. Ben Margiott of Nevada Sports Net reports that Mereulo is seeking tax subsidies from the state to fund the estimated $1 billion project.
This after Mereulo boasting that he wouldn't need any tax payer money to fund his failed arena project in Arizona.
From Margiott:
The arena would be located at the Grand Sierra Resort, a casino owned by Meruelo. Margiott reported that the 10,000-seat rink would be home to the University of Nevada’s men’s basketball team and a potential American Hockey League team.
The new project would also include a satellite ice rink, a dedicated parking garage, a fan zone and workforce housing.
Can you trust anything this guy says or does?
If I were entering into any agreement with Meruelo, I'd be extremely wary. He's simply not trustworthy... just ask Coyotes fans.
