Former first round pick signs short deal with new team.
Keystone Press.

It's been a rough road for Brandon Gormley since being drafted 13th overall by the Arizona Coyotes and his newest deal with the New Jersey Devils would indicate that.

The 24 year old former 2010 first round pick agreed to a one year deal with the Devils worth just $650,000on Thursday, and it's a two-way deal which means like last season he could spend much of his time playing in the American Hockey League.

For Gormley this has to be viewed as a chance to change the trajectory of his career, the Devils are a team that are in the process of retooling and if he can recapture some of the promise he showed to convince Arizona to draft him in the first round he could be in the right scenario to earn a real opportunity.

With that said, Colorado elected not to re-sign him this summer and the large amount of time he spent with the San Antonio Rampage last season would indicate they saw little upside in him despite his pedigree.

At the price they paid, it's a low-risk proposition for the Devils.
