Phil Kessel was once called "uncoachable" by former Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Ron Wilson, but now it appears Wilson may have had a change of heart. Wilson spoke with NHL.com earlier this week and when asked how he thought Phil Kessel would perform as a member of the Penguins he made a very bold prediction.
"Pittsburgh is building a team that wants to win the Stanley Cup now, and I think Phil is only going to add to their success, so I expect him to score at least 40 goals this year and be a dominant player again," Wilson said.
While Wilson certainly isn't the only man who expects Kessel to shine with the help of Crosby or Malkin it's a rather shocking prediction and maybe even a compliment from a former head coach who went out of his way to criticize Kessel in the past. In fact there were even reports that the two men couldn't stand one another.
"Phil will do just fine [in Pittsburgh]," Wilson said. "Whether he plays with Malkin or Sid, he's got a center iceman who can get him the puck and do things on his own. In Toronto he didn't quite have that."
It seems like Wilson has changed his stance from Phil Kessel being an uncoachable player to the Maple Leafs being responsible for not putting a good enough team around him. He certainly knows how to make friends.
