I'm prepared to say it: Nail Yakupov is the biggest bust in NHL history.

Sure, there are other 1st overall busts out there, most notably Alex Daigle, Patrik Stefan and Rick DiPietro. But, Yakupov is on another level. While all of the above mentioned players left plenty to be desired, they all managed to eke out an NHL career while Yakupov never really cemented himself as a full-time NHLer.

Daigle played 600+ games, Stefan played 450+ games, DiPietro played 300+ games and was an NHL All-Star... Yakupov though? He managed just 350 career games, scoring 62 goals and 136 points. He never hit the 20 goal plateau and never crested the 35 point plateau. And if he wasn't scoring, he was ineffective defensively. He was out of the NHL entirely long before he even hit 30 years old. Now, at 29, he's playing for his fourth KHL team in six years.

Yakupov announced he has signed a one year deal with HC Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk of the KHL.

He managed 10 points in just 16 games with Omsk Avangard last season and has 64 goals and 123 points in 2011 career KHL games.
