You don't see one of these every day.

This past week in the Kontinental Hockey League saw a very unusual play featuring former New York Rangers goaltender Adam Huska. Goalies don't normally get involved in the more physically contentious aspects of the sport of hockey, usually confined to the area between the posts of their goal, but this week the former National Hockey League netminder decided that he would get involved in exactly that.

Huska kicked up a little controversy when he decided that he would make 24 year old Ilya Safonov the target of his ire, with Huska coming out of his net to play a puck that was coming around the back of that very same net. Instead of playing the puck however, Huska would merely stick his paddle out in a weak attempt to touch the puck while laying into the oncoming Safonov with a thunderous body check. The hit would send Safonov sailing through the air, with the young forward going almost completely horizontal before crashing to the ice.

Thankfully no one was injured on the play, but it did make for a speculator sight:

I must admit I am personally not a fan of seeing goaltenders get involved in this manner, if only due to the fact that it creates a bit of an uneven playing field from the perspective of the skaters on the ice. Goalies are shielded from blows of this nature by the rules of our sport and I don't think it's fair, or even right, for them to get involved in physical plays of this nature when a player would be penalized for doing so if the tables were turned.

Let me know what you thought of Huska's hit in the comments.
