Former NHL goalie has announced his retirement due to concussion issues. Buffalo Sabres goaltender Nathan Lieuwen, 25-years-old, 

How did the injury happened? In a simple play, Jay Rosehill made contact with Lieuwen’s head while skating through the crease during a scramble in front.

I was on the left post, kind of down and he cut into the middle,” Lieuwen said in the interview with Friedman from Sportsnet. “As soon as the impact happened, my vision changed.”

As reported by Elliotte Friedman, “later diagnosed with a concussion, Lieuwen’s eye sight has never fully recovered since the injury, eventually leading the 25-year-old Abbotsford native to hang up the skates after several seasons with the AHL’s Rochester Americans.

Lieuwen retires after playing 7 games in the NHL. He maintained a 2.98 goals-against average, a .906 save percentage and a 1–4 career record.
