Former NHL goalie makes a dire prediction regarding Connor Hellebuyck's future.

The Connor Hellebuyck situation in Winnipeg turned ugly last week when Hellebuyck went public with his request demanding a trade away from the Winnipeg Jets, a decision that left his team and Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff in a very tough position.

Unsurprisingly the move to go public on the part of Hellebuyck has yet to result in a trade and, with teams around the National Hockey League potentially smelling blood in the water, it seems likely that Hellebuyck's public demand will make it even harder for Cheveldayoff to get the deal he is looking for. And that might be where the real trouble kicks in.

During a recent interview, former NHL goaltender Martin Biron revealed that he believes Hellebuyck is prepared to use the nuclear option if things continue to trend in this direction, suggesting that Hellebuyck would happily miss an entire NHL season in order to prove his point.

"I really feel that Connor Hellebuyck is gonna say 'Ok that's fine, suspend me whatever, I'm willing to sit out a year I've made good money I've put it away... just gonna take time with my family,'" said Biron during a segment on TSN's Overdrive.

That would truly be unprecedented in the modern era of the National Hockey League and you have to believe that it would be an absolute last resort on the part of Hellebuyck who would be leaving millions on the table in the process. While Hellebuyck would certainly lose out, it would be an unmitigated disaster for the Jets as well who would be left without both their goalie or any potential trade return for Hellebuyck.
